Our Goals & Objectives

  • To practice a high quality Intensive integrated farming in our Dairy farm.
  • To produce the highest quality milk possible.
  • To bottle and distribute the freshest high quality milk products for local consumers.
  • To promote milk and dairy products as an excellent source of nutrition.
  • To protect and promote preservation of prime agricultural top soil in our farm
  • To promote alternative methods of agriculture or concurrent expansion of farm business to help farmers remain in business and make a profit.

Our Dairy farm will work hard every day to bring out to the community fresh, great tasting, wholesome milk products. Our dairy farm is family-owned, and as active members of our community, we take pride in maintaining natural resources. That means preserving the land where we live and work, protecting the air and water we share with neighbors, and providing the best care for our animals—the lifeblood of our business

Our farm keeps Holstein cows, known for high amounts of milk production. The farm has 3 cows, Goats and sheep, Poultry and Rabbits. Our main home farm is 2 acres and our day begins at 4 a.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m.  There is a lot of work involved during all times of the year.   Our day includes:

  • Starting work at 4 - 4:30 a.m. [7 days a week]. 
  • Cleaning and sanitizing [getting rid of germs] of the hoses, connections, and pipes that the milk flows through.
  • Feeding and taking care of the young calves.  Bottle feeding for the new ones, a bucket of milk for the older ones.
  • Feeding and taking are of chicken, goats, sheep, ducks and geese
  •  Taking care of the crops when the weather is warmer.  [Sowing, growing, harvesting]. 
  • Checking out the feed that is stored in silos and grain bins; doing maintenance on equipment. 
  • Sanitizing milking areas again.
  • Milking the cows again around 4:00 p.m.
  •  Checking milk to be sure that the butterfat content is right and that there isn't anything wrong with the milk so that the hauler can come to get it.
  •  Feeding cows.
To lower food costs, we grow part of the food for the Animals. We also grow cabbages, Maize, beans carrots and potatoes for family consumption.

Where do we start

  • We want to get a positive credit and community history of Kirinyaga district in relations to dairy farming. We also want to get references and individuals, especially farmers and agricultural support people for advice.
  • The family want to do “hands on” Production costs can be controlled if you are willing and able to do more than you hire someone else to do.
  • We will try and get experience on someone else’s farm before going it on our own. We will visit various farms in Kenya.
  • We know that we can’t have it all the first year.  We shall therefore add or improve something every year, we shall take it gradually.”
  • We will be careful to listen to other farmers.
  • We will take care not to get too far in debt.
  • We shall always try to maintain Management skills as the key. We want to work smarter, not harder.”
